The young man who wants a motorcycle at all costs, maybe does not want it to run, but to produce stories. The need to narrate, then. With the practice of creative writing to understand the best qualities of a writer: “to be able to see” and “to be able to listen closely”, without prejudice, being permeated by the present moment.
To stimulate intellectual curiosity, knowledge, self-discipline, the observation of details, control, awareness. To stimulate the interest for what other people write and then to enter into relations with others and to accept differences. We read aloud what has been written, socializing thoughts.
To write haiku means to observe the world with careful eyes. It forces to free oneself from overtones, from useless and unnecessary words. It pushes us to “see” and, above all, to “catch” the essence of an event we observe, the substance of an experience, the core of an emotion. A poetry of simplicity, containment, deepness, concentration, essentiality, beauty. A great school of life and meditation. A path particularly suitable and meaningful for prisoners.
